After a multi-year hiatus, Electronic Arts’ venerable PGA Tour video game franchise has returned. Newly christened EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Golf, it is their first foray into the newest generation of console hardware. Sporting a new headliner – Tiger Woods has been banished in favor of the younger and now more marketable McIlroy – and a distinct lack of an assigned year to it, EA’s latest golf title would appear to be the start of a new approach to managing their brand.
The game offers enhanced visuals, three different “Gameplay Styles” tailored to different types of players, some fantasy courses and over-the-top mini-games. What it doesn’t have are many authentic licensed courses or real golfers, modes that dive into the history of the sport, or a significant amount of depth to its Career Mode.
